Every great AI interaction starts with a conversation. Here's how to make the most of chatting with Billix.

Starting a New Chat

Method 1: Click New Chat

Click the + button in the top left corner of the screen, or in the sidebar.

Method 2: Keyboard Shortcut

Press ⌘+Shift+O (Mac) or Ctrl+Shift+O (Windows) to instantly start a new chat.

Press ⌘+K to open the command palette, then select "New Chat."

Writing Your First Message

When you start a new chat, you'll see an empty conversation with a text input at the bottom.

Type Your Message

Write what you want to ask or discuss. Be as specific as possible for better results.

Choose Your Model (Optional)

Click the model selector to pick a different AI model if needed. Each model has different strengths.

Send Your Message

Press Enter or click the send button. Your message will be sent and you'll see the AI's response stream in real-time.

Continuing Conversations

The AI remembers everything in your current conversation. You can:

  • Ask follow-up questions - "Can you explain that in simpler terms?"
  • Request modifications - "Make it shorter" or "Add more examples"
  • Build on previous responses - "Now help me with the next step"
  • Change direction - "Actually, let's try a different approach"

The AI's memory is limited to the current conversation. If you start a new chat, it won't remember previous conversations (unless you've saved relevant information to Memory).

Editing Messages

Made a typo or want to rephrase? You can edit your messages:

Click on Your Message

Hover over your message and click the edit icon (pencil).

Make Your Changes

Edit the text as needed.

Submit

Press Enter or click Save. The AI will generate a new response based on your edited message.

Regenerating Responses

If you're not satisfied with an AI response, you can ask for a new one:

  1. Hover over the AI's message
  2. Click the Regenerate button (circular arrow icon)
  3. The AI will generate a fresh response

Tip: Try switching to a different model before regenerating. Different models may give you better results for certain tasks.

Branching Conversations

Want to explore different directions from a single point? Use branching:

Find the Branch Point

Hover over any AI message where you want to create an alternative path.

Click Branch

Click the branch icon. This creates a new conversation path from that point.

Continue Down the New Path

Type your new message to take the conversation in a different direction.

Branching is useful when you want to:

  • Try different approaches to a problem
  • Explore "what if" scenarios
  • Keep the original conversation intact while experimenting

Stopping Generation

If the AI is generating a response you don't need, you can stop it:

  • Press Escape on your keyboard
  • Click the Stop button that appears during generation

The AI will stop immediately, and you can send a new message.

Best Practices

For Better Conversations

DoDon't
Be specific about what you wantGive vague, one-word prompts
Provide relevant contextAssume the AI knows your situation
Ask for specific formatsLeave the format up to chance
Break complex tasks into stepsAsk for everything at once

Example: Good vs. Bad Prompts

"Write code"

This is too vague. The AI doesn't know what language, what the code should do, or how it should work.

"Write a Python function that takes a list of numbers and returns only the even numbers. Include error handling for non-numeric inputs and add comments explaining the logic."

This tells the AI exactly what you need: the language, the functionality, error handling, and documentation requirements.
