How to Choose

Ask Yourself

  1. How complex is my task?

    • Simple question → Use a fast model (GPT-4o Mini, Gemini Flash)
    • Complex analysis → Use a premium model (GPT-5, Claude Opus)
  2. What type of content?

    • Code → GPT-4.1, Claude Sonnet, or Qwen Coder
    • Writing → Claude Opus or GPT-4o
    • Research → Gemini Pro with web search
  3. How important is speed?

    • Need it fast → GPT-4o Mini, Gemini Flash
    • Quality matters more → Premium models
  4. Do I need to see reasoning?

    • Yes → Use reasoning models (o3, DeepSeek R1)
    • No → Standard models are fine

Model Switching

You can switch models anytime during a conversation:

Open Model Selector

Click the model name in the input area, or press ⌘+M.

Choose New Model

Select the model you want to switch to.

Continue Chatting

Your next message will be processed by the new model. The AI will still see your conversation history.

When to switch models: If you're not getting good results, try switching to a different model. Each model has different strengths and may handle your task better.

Reasoning Models

Some models can show you their "thinking process":

  • o3 (OpenAI) - Step-by-step reasoning
  • Claude 4 Opus (Anthropic) - Detailed thought process
  • DeepSeek R1 - Open reasoning model
  • Gemini 2.5 Flash Thinking - Reasoning with speed

With reasoning models, you'll see the AI's thought process before the final answer. This is useful for:

  • Understanding complex decisions
  • Learning how the AI approaches problems
  • Verifying the AI's logic
